Introduction

Geometry Dash is a fast-paced, rhythm-based platformer game developed by RobTop Games. First released in 2013, it has gained a massive following due to its challenging gameplay, vibrant visuals, and addictive soundtrack. It combines simple mechanics with precise timing, requiring players to navigate a series of obstacles in sync with background music.

In Geometry Dash, you control a customizable geometric shape—starting with a cube—that moves through a 2D side-scrolling world filled with spikes, portals, and other hazards. The game features both official levels created by the developer and a vast array of user-created levels, thanks to its built-in level editor.

How to play

Controls

  • On Mobile: Tap and hold the screen to make your shape jump, fly, or interact with objects. Release to stop certain actions (e.g., flying).
  • On PC: Press the spacebar, up arrow, or left-click to perform actions, depending on your settings.
  • The controls are simple but require precise timing.

Gameplay

  • Cube Mode: The default form. Your shape rolls forward automatically, and you tap or press to jump over spikes, gaps, or onto platforms.
  • Portals: Levels feature portals that change your shape or movement:
  • Ship: Fly a small spaceship by holding the input to ascend and releasing to descend.
  • Ball: Roll along surfaces and switch gravity by tapping/clicking.
  • Wave: Move diagonally in a zigzag pattern, holding to go up and releasing to go down.
  • Robot: Similar to the cube but with variable jump heights based on how long you hold.
  • UFO: Bounce in the air with short, controlled jumps.
  • Spider: Teleport and flip gravity instantly with each tap.
  • Hazards: Avoid spikes, saw blades, and other obstacles. Colliding with them resets you to the start (or a checkpoint if you’ve hit one).
  • Checkpoints: In practice mode, you can place checkpoints to avoid restarting from the beginning.
  • Timing: Many obstacles move or appear in rhythm with the music, so listening closely helps anticipate challenges.
