Introduction
Battalion Commander is an action-packed, top-down vertical scrolling shooter game that puts you in the boots of a lone soldier thrust behind enemy lines. Your mission is to fight through enemy territory, liberate captured allies, and destroy as many foes as possible while surviving the chaos of war.
The game has spawned variations such as Battalion Commander 2 and Battalion Commander 1917, but the core concept remains consistent: lead your growing squad to victory, dodge bullets, and rack up points through skillful play.
How to play
Controls
- Mouse (Primary Control): Move your cursor to guide your soldier across the screen. Your character automatically fires at enemies in range, so positioning is key.
- Special: Press Space or Enter to activate special skills when available.
- Left Mouse Button (LMB): Interact with the user interface (e.g., selecting upgrades or skills) or trigger special abilities during gameplay.
Gameplay
Start the Battle:
- You begin as a lone soldier armed with a basic weapon. Enemies will approach from the top of the screen, and your soldier auto-fires straight ahead.
- Move left, right, up, or down to avoid enemy fire and position yourself strategically.
Rescue Allies:
- Look for cages or trapped soldiers on the battlefield. Move near them to free them, and they’ll join your squad, adding firepower and acting as extra shields.
- The more allies you recruit, the stronger your battalion becomes.
Collect Resources:
- Defeated enemies and destroyed objects drop coins (for upgrades) and stars (experience points). Move over them to collect.
- Power-ups occasionally appear as icons—click or move over them to activate temporary boosts like increased firepower or speed.
Survive and Progress:
- A progress meter (usually on the right side of the screen) shows how far you’ve advanced in the mission. Reach the end to complete it.
- Your health is displayed (often on the left). If it runs out, you’ll fail and need to restart from the base.
Use Skills:
- As you collect resources, you’ll unlock special abilities (e.g., a barrage of bullets or temporary invincibility). Activate them with Space/Enter or LMB when you’re in a tight spot.
