Introduction
Papa Louie 3: When Sundaes Attack! is the third installment in the popular Papa Louie platformer series developed by Flipline Studios. In this adventure, players dive into the whimsical yet dangerous Land of Munchmore, where desserts have turned evil.
The story kicks off when Papa Louie hosts a gelato party on a cruise aboard the S.S. Louie to celebrate the opening of Papa’s Freezeria. Things go awry when Radley Madish and his henchman Luau LePunch use a portal to unleash an army of mischievous sundaes and dessert monsters, kidnapping Papa Louie and his customers. It’s up to Captain Cori, the ship’s commander, to lead the rescue mission through a candy-filled world full of treacherous terrain and sweet-themed enemies like Sundaesauruses, whipped cream monsters, and cherry bombs.
This vibrant platformer combines exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving across multiple levels, from the colorful Neapolitown to the perilous Gummy Grotto. As you progress, you’ll unlock and play as rescued customers, each with unique abilities and weapons, adding variety and strategy to the gameplay.
How to play
Controls
- Arrow Keys: Move left or right, climb ladders, or swim (in underwater sections).
- Up Arrow: Jump or swim upward.
- Down Arrow: Duck, slide down hills, or swim downward.
- Spacebar: Attack with your character’s weapon (e.g., swing a flag or throw projectiles). Hold to charge certain attacks.
Gameplay
- Choose your character: Start as Captain Cori, but as you rescue customers (like Yui or Alberto), you can select them for different levels. Each has a unique weapon (e.g., a spatula or beach ball) and skills (e.g., Swim Boost, Gliding, or Wall Climbing).
- Navigate levels: Run, jump, and swim through platforms, avoiding obstacles like spikes, ice cannons, or Cherry Mines. Some areas require specific skills, like dashing to break barriers or swimming to explore underwater caves.
- Combat enemies: Most enemies, like Sundaesauruses, take one to three hits to defeat. Use your weapon (Spacebar) or jump on enemies to stun them. Sliding down hills can also knock foes out. Watch out for bosses at the end of certain levels, which require strategy to beat.
- Rescue and recruit: Free customers from cages to unlock them as playable characters. Their abilities can help tackle specific challenges (e.g., a Swim Boost character excels in underwater sections).
- Collect items:
- Coins: Earn points and spend them on character outfits.
- Warp Keys: Unlock the bonus X Zone after collecting all 50.
- Hearts: Restore health or gain extra lives.
- Power-Ups: Grant temporary boosts, like speed or stronger attacks.
- Complete goals: Each level has objectives, such as collecting all coins, defeating a set number of enemies, or finding secret items. Replay levels to achieve 100% completion for rewards.
- Avoid damage: You have a limited number of lives (hearts). Getting hit by enemies or hazards reduces health. Lose all hearts, and you’ll respawn at the last checkpoint. Extra lives are scattered throughout levels.
