Introduction
Wordmeister is a captivating word puzzle game inspired by Scrabble, designed to challenge and expand your English vocabulary. Played on a 15×15 grid, it pits you against a smart AI opponent in a turn-based format, where the goal is to create valid English words to score points. The game features strategic elements like bonus squares and a vast dictionary aligned with global competition standards, making it ideal for word enthusiasts and casual players alike.
How to play
Game setup
- The game begins with a random draw to determine the starting player: each player (you and the AI) draws a tile, and the one with the letter closest to ‘A’ goes first.
- Both players receive 8 letter tiles from a tile bag. The first word must be placed on the center star square, which doubles the word score.
Forming words
- Drag and drop letter tiles to create valid English words (horizontally or vertically) on the board, connecting to existing words crossword-style. Words must be at least two letters long and exist in the game’s dictionary (based on sources like the Collins Scrabble Dictionary).
- Proper nouns (e.g., Sony, Roy) and certain country names (e.g., Peru) are typically invalid. You can form multiple words in a single turn, but they must align in one direction.
Scoring points
- Each letter has a point value, with rarer letters (e.g., Q, Z, X) worth more. Longer words generally yield higher scores.
- Use bonus squares to boost your score:
- Blue: Doubles the letter’s value.
- Green: Triples the letter’s value.
- Orange: Doubles the word’s value.
- Red: Triples the word’s value.
-
Bonus squares form a diamond pattern around the board, unlike Scrabble’s intersecting center design
Game controls
- Play: Submit your word (only works if valid).
- Swap: Exchange any number of tiles for new ones, forfeiting your turn.
- Skip: Pass your turn without playing or swapping.
- Shuffle: Randomize the order of your tiles to spark new word ideas.
- Use a mouse (drag and drop) or tap on mobile devices. Full-screen mode and sound controls are available.
Game end
The game ends when:
- All tiles are used, or
- No valid words can be formed, or
- Both players skip twice consecutively.
- The player with the highest score wins.
