Introduction
Mine Blocks is a 2D sandbox game inspired by Minecraft and Terraria, created by indie developer Zanzlanz. Initially released as a Flash game in June 2011, it has been updated to HTML5 for browser-based play, requiring no downloads or plugins. This game offers a pixelated, open-world experience where players can mine resources, craft items, build structures, and explore procedurally generated worlds.
The game features Survival and Creative modes, a multiplayer Scavenger Hunt minigame, and regular updates, making it a nostalgic yet evolving fan favorite. With over 10,000 unique skins and a vibrant community, Mine Blocks combines creativity, survival, and adventure in a compact, accessible format.
How to play
Controls
- Movement: Use WASD keys to move; double-tap A or D to sprint.
- Resource collection: Left-click and hold on blocks or creatures to mine resources (use appropriate tools, e.g., pickaxe for stone).
- Placing blocks: Select a block from the hotbar (scroll wheel or number keys), hold Shift, position the cursor, and left-click to place.
- Inventory/crafting: Press E to open inventory; drag items to craft in the 2×2 grid. Use T to open chat in multiplayer.
Basic Gameplay (Survival Mode)
- Gather wood: Punch trees (left-click) to collect wood. Break leaves for fruit (food). Craft wood into planks (1 wood = 4 planks) in the inventory crafting grid.
- Crafting table: Place 4 planks in the 2×2 inventory grid to make a crafting table. Place it on the ground (right-click) for a 3×3 crafting grid to create complex items.
- Build a shelter: Before nightfall, build a house using blocks (e.g., wood, dirt) to protect against hostile mobs like creepers, spiders, and zombies. Place torches or light sources to prevent mob spawning.
- Craft tools: Use the crafting table to make tools like a wooden axe (3 planks + 2 sticks) or pickaxe for faster resource gathering. Check the Mine Blocks Wiki for recipes.
Survival essentials
- Food: Hunt animals, fish, or farm crops to maintain health and prevent starvation. Cook raw food in a furnace (crafted from 8 stone blocks).
- Mining: Dig underground to find ores like coal, iron, or diamonds. Use a stone pickaxe (3 stone + 2 sticks) to mine iron ore, then smelt it in a furnace with coal or charcoal (smelted wood) for iron ingots to craft better tools.
- Combat: Craft weapons (e.g., sword) to fight mobs. In Survival, defeating the Ender Dragon in the End dimension is a key milestone.
Creative mode
- Access unlimited blocks and items, fly (double-tap spacebar), and build without survival pressures. Ideal for creating elaborate structures or pixel art
