Introduction
FreeCell Solitaire is a classic and addictive card game that stands out in the Solitaire family due to its unique gameplay and face-up card setup. Unlike other versions of Solitaire, every card is dealt face-up from the very beginning, allowing players to think ahead and strategize their moves with full knowledge of the deck. Most deals are solvable, making it a satisfying and challenging puzzle that rewards careful planning. FreeCell’s engaging mechanics have earned it a place in the hearts of Solitaire fans, especially after it was included in every version of Microsoft Windows since 1995.
How to Play
The goal of FreeCell Solitaire is to move all the cards onto the four foundation piles in the upper right corner of the screen. These piles are built in ascending order from Ace to King, with one suit in each pile.
-
The Tableau:
-
You have eight tableau piles that hold your cards. Cards must be moved to the foundation piles in a specific order (Ace, 2, 3, …, King), and they must alternate colors (red and black).
-
You can move cards between tableau piles to organize them in descending order (King, Queen, Jack, 10, etc.) and alternating colors.
-
-
The Free Cells:
-
There are four free cells available to temporarily hold cards. Use these free cells strategically to free up space or move cards around.
-
You can only move one card at a time into the free cells. Keep in mind that each free cell is precious!
-
-
The Foundation:
-
The foundation piles are where you’ll build up suits from Ace to King. You start each foundation pile with an Ace and continue to build it up in the correct order (2, 3, 4, etc.).
-
-
Moving Cards:
-
To make a move, click on a card and drag it to the appropriate location (another tableau pile, free cell, or foundation).
-
You can move cards between tableau piles if the destination card is in descending order and has the opposite color (e.g., a red 7 can go on a black 8).
